Brooktrout Touts New Partners for Software-only SR140 HMP FoIP Solution
By Robert Liu, TMCnet Executive Editor
Fax-over-IP leader Brooktrout Technology on Monday paraded around a team of new partners for its Host Media Processing (HMP) software-based SR140, which the company released last year.
In a press release, Brooktrout touted Arcosoft, AVM Informatique, Cascom, FaxBack, FaxCore, Inc., SoftLinx, Systems Solutions, and RTE as its newest partners for the SR140 solution. Host-based processing allows media processing and call control functions-traditionally performed by specialized digital signal processors (DSP) on boards-to be performed on general purpose host CPU's that run on industry standard servers.
“The SR140 preserves the same high quality fax experience enterprises have come to expect, giving them real-time transmission and confirmation they get from their Brooktrout fax boards, along with the simplicity and cost savings of consolidating their fax traffic on their VoIP network,” said Max Schroeder, Sr. Vice President of FaxCore.
The SR140 supports SIP and H.323 call control and T.38 media processing protocols that have been tested and certified with Cisco Media Gateways and Excel's IMG 1010 media gateway. The SR140 also includes features such as Error Correction Mode and MMR fax compression and is available in a variety of densities from two to 60 channels.
The beauty of a pure, 100-percent software solution is that, to add channels at a later time, customers can simply purchase and install a new software license key to instantly upgrade their solution, rather than buying and install a new board.
“Companies that have made the move to VoIP want to fully benefit from the cost savings of a single converged communications network and are dissatisfied with band-aid approaches such as G.711 pass through or analog adapters,” said Rene van Stekelenburg, Managing Director of Cascom. “SR140 enables us to offer an elegant solution to the problem of integrating fax servers into the VoIP mix.”
“As enterprises migrate to VoIP, reliability is the name of the game. We support Brooktrout IP in our NET SatisFAXtion fax server to take advantage of Brooktrout technology and reliability. For years Brooktrout's fax solutions have proven to be winners for our customers. Brooktrout IP continues this track record,” said Art King, President of FaxBack.
“With Brooktrout IP Fax software, IP fax is now ready for prime time,” said Ivor Livingston, System Solutions CEO. “With no boards to configure, users get a Fax Server with a robust and forgiving T.30 protocol engine without the complexity and maintenance costs associated with traditional hardware based fax servers.”
