Report: Carrier VoIP/IMS Market up 51 Percent Worldwide
By Johanne Torres, TMCnet Contributing Editor
A recent Q1 2006 study conducted by research firm Synergy Research Group found that softswitch and VoIP media gateways, which are today’s foundations of IP Multimedia Subsystem (News - Alert) (IMS), recently grew more than 50 percent worldwide.
Specifically, analysts found that regionally, APAC (Asia Pacific) contributed the strongest growth rate of 62 percent, followed by EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) and North America (NAM) with growth rates of 60 and 48 percent, respectively.
“Introducing voice to IP has radically changed the future of wired and wireless networks,” said Synergy Research Group's president & CEO Jeremy Duke, in a statement. “The success of VoIP has already created shifts in market leadership. Now there is a heightened sense of urgency for those vendors who need to strengthen their IMS offerings to pursue partnerships or acquisitions.”
