VoIP Equipment Market Trends Change in Response to Economy

By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

Buffalo, N.Y.-based VoIP Supply is a provider of VoIP Equipment and complete systems for businesses, service providers and resellers.

Recently, Garrett Smith (News - Alert), director of Marketing and Business Development at VoIP Supply took some time to chat about products the company offers and the affect of the economy on the VoIP equipment market.

During the TMCnet podcast session, Smith noted that the company, who works with over seventy different manufacturers, really offers “everything that you need for VoIP.”

“From desktop phones, to networking components, we really offer all you need to design a complete solution regardless of the size or scope of your project.”

Even for those shoppers visiting VoIPSupply (News - Alert).com and not finding what they’re looking for, Smith notes that a quick call to the sales team will “probably result in us bringing in that product and making sure we can get it in your hands.”

One thing that has slowed down sales cycles though, Smith said, is the current economy and the reality that many customers have “tightened up.”

According to Smith, even though sales cycles are slower and customers are now demanding quicker ROI time, there has been an improvement in 3Q and 4Q, which is a positive sign.

The weaker economy and the need to save on costs has also helped shape some trends and growth areas, Smith said.

For 2009, the VoIP gateways sector for example, saw an increase as more customers looked to partial deployments so they could IP-enable existing PBX (News - Alert) systems and receive the cost benefit of VoIP without the full blow investment, Smith said.

Open source solutions are also emerging as a winner for company’s willing to try and create telephony systems on their own, and for far less cost.

Despite these trends, which Smith expects will continue into the foreseeable future, he remains optimistic. “Things are still looking better than they were,” Smith said.
