The Year Ahead in VoIP Equipment - with VoIP Supply's Benjamin Sayers

By Paula Bernier, Executive Editor, TMC

TMCnet recently asked some of the leading lights in the industry for their thoughts about 2011 and what’s in store for the year ahead.

Here’s what Benjamin Sayers, CEO of VoIP Supply, a leading supplier of VoIP equipment, had to say.

What was your company’s greatest achievement in 2011?

Sayers: With the vast number of achievements each month/quarter/year, it is very hard to identify a single one. Once again the company was named as one of Western New York’s Best Places to Work. We also successfully relocated the business to a newly purchased headquarters and did so without disrupting business significantly; in fact, we grew our business year over year by 15 to 20 percent (current run rate is 17.13 percent).

What are your business’s goals for 2012?

Sayers: Continued penetration into the market of providing a complete suite of products and value adds to VoIP service providers; greater expansion into global markets, outside of the continental U.S.; continued refinement of our processes and procedures to further improve efficiency and automation; year over year growth of 20 percent or more.

How would you describe your outlook for business and the economy at large heading into 2012?

Sayers: Yikes! That’s a loaded question. For overall global business, economics and civilization I’m not optimistic that 2012 will be great for most. It will be for some, but only a select group. For our business and industry, I am very optimistic as we believe that we are doing the right things to support the global changes, improve ourselves and grow our business.

If there’s one thing you’d like to see happen related to business in the year ahead, what is that one thing?

Sayers: If business as a whole could do one thing, I would like to see them pause and evaluate their actions that are not helping global, national, regional or individual sustainability and then change or stop those actions. If you want a more business type answer, one thing I would like to see happen in business would be for companies to evaluate their phone system and compare it with the value proposition of switching to a voice over IP-based PBX (News - Alert) to take advantage of the cost savings and/or enhanced features available over traditional PBXs – a fairly selfish thing for sure, yet that is why our business is here and is successful.

If 2011 was the year of cloud and/or the year of the tablet, 2012 will be the year of the…

Sayers: I would agree that 2011 was the year of the tablet, but not the cloud, and rather 2012 will be the year of acceleration for cloud based service offerings. Alternately, 2012 could very well prove to be the breakout year for videoconferencing.

Any other thoughts you’d like to share about the year ahead?

Sayers: We are all very excited about the upcoming year with expected growth in our typical VoIP equipment business as well as growth in videoconferencing, video surveillance and hosted/cloud based services. We are also optimistic about the continued flattening of our global civilization as it relates to opportunities to grow in areas outside of the U.S. with the same ease and accessibility of local growth. Additionally we are enthusiastic about the utilization of a growing videoconferencing market and overall VoIP adoption. Lastly, as 4G/WiMAX (News - Alert) gets legs, we expect to see a significant disruption of the overall telecom industry, including VoIP, cellular and traditional means.
