Phybridge UniPhyer Touted as 'Low-Cost, Risk Free' VoIP Enabler

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

The Phybridge (News - Alert) UniPhyer is being touted by company officials as a "new standard for IP telephony infrastructure," a "low-cost, risk free VoIP enabler."

It uses existing telephony cabling to provide a complete IP network for voice and data, letting you centrally converge with the LAN, and it provides a dedicated path for voice, QoS and POE to every desktop.

Plenty of video testimonials are available.

"Are you looking to transition to IP telephony? Do you have reliable phone systems based on robust and resilient legacy PBX (News - Alert) Systems?" company officials ask, adding that to find out more about how the Phybridge UniPhyer, VoIP enabler, can help your business, there's a data sheet at the company Web site.

Some PBX systems, company officials say, do not integrate readily with Data Networks, a prerequisite for unified communications. IP Telephony, on the other hand, "is the preferred means for unified communications, but the IP PBX/IP phones lack the reliability one has come to associate with legacy PBX Systems."

The Phybridge UniPhyer, company officials say, lets IP phones have "the reliability and voice clarity of traditional phone systems without sacrificing any of the benefits of IP Phones... IP PBXs and IP Phones deployed over the Phybridge UniPhyer can thus offer the robustness of traditional telephony systems and the easy mobility of IP phones."

Recently TMC (News - Alert) reported that  Phybridge announced that its UniPhyer "is compliant with IP telephony from Avaya (News - Alert)."

The UniPhyer is described by Phybridge officials as enabling businesses to deploy IP telephony "with no network or business disruptions." They say the application is proven and validated by Avaya Labs "to interoperate with the Avaya Communications Server 1000 and the Avaya Business Communications Manager 50, designed for the SMB market."

Phybridge is a member of the Avaya DevConnect (News - Alert) program, an initiative to develop, market and sell third-party products that interoperate with Avaya technology.

The UniPhyer provides power over Ethernet over a single cable, company officials say, adding that this allows businesses "to save money, eliminate risks and provide flexibility while they ready themselves to reap the benefits" of IP telephony.
