), Inc., has announced plans to extend its IP
telephony functionality to mobile workers through the development of its new Interaction Client, Mobile Edition.
A graphical interface that supports the Windows Mobile 5.0 and Smart Phone operating systems, Interaction Client, Mobile Edition will make Interactive Intelligence IP telephony functionality accessible via mobile devices such as the Microsoft (News
) Windows-Powered Pocket PC and the Windows Mobile Smartphone.
Offered as part of the company’s unified communications software suite for contact centers and enterprises, the Mobile Edition includes mobile device access for company directory look-up, presence management, Microsoft Outlook contact access, call control, multi-party conferencing, call recording, and text messaging.
According to Joseph A. Staples, senior vice president of worldwide marketing for Interactive Intelligence, the Mobile Edition client is another step in the company’s move toward truly “ubiquitous” communications.
"The Mobile Edition client builds on our existing interfaces for desktop computer and laptop access, as well as access from SIP-based soft phones at the desktop," Staples said in a Wednesday statement. "Typically, mobile workers have to sacrifice functionality when they are not in the office.”
“As part of our unified communications software suite, however, the Mobile Edition client will provide access for mobile workers to key telephony functionality from an easy-to-use interface supported by the most popular wireless telephony devices. The benefit to users is maximum flexibility and efficiency in managing interactions anywhere at anytime," Staples added.
The Mobile Edition client is designed to run on networks that provide access to voice and data simultaneously through high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA
). The solution can also be used on devices using WiFi (News
) for its data connection, and a cellular network for its audio path.
Targeted enterprises for the Mobile Edition client include those with field personnel, such as sales representatives, technicians and consultants, in addition to mobile on-premise employees, such as supervisors, senior managers, technical support personnel, and anyone working in a campus environment. Vertical targets include retail, warehousing, hospitality and healthcare.
Interaction Client®, Mobile Edition is scheduled for general availability throughout North America in the further quarter of 2007. The solution will be offered through the Interactive Intelligence channel of more than 250 value-added resellers.
