Communications access equipment manufacturer RAD Data Communications today announced the release of its new service-oriented Ethernet Network Termination Unit.

 

The ETX-102 E-NTU provides a clear demarcation point between user and operator networks. That makes possible end-to-end control of fast Ethernet services in the fiber loop.

 

Because service providers can purchase the ETX-102 and operate it on their premises, operators are able to use the product to separate each user’s traffic and offer services such as inter-office LAN connectivity and secure virtual private networks.

 

“Ethernet in the local loop reduces carrier expenses, since Ethernet ports are far less expensive than other access alternatives,” said RAD’s Senior Director of Network Architecture, Joshua Etkin, in a press release.

 

Etkin added: “RAD’s cost-effective, remotely-managed ETX-102 is an ideal solution for Ethernet in the local loop because it provides access regardless of the backbone technology.”
