PortaOne, a software provider for the telecommunications and utility industries, and CounterPath (News - Alert) Corporation, a developer of VoIP software products, stated that the PortaSwitch is now interoperable with the full range of CouterPath Bria desktop and mobile softphones.

The interoperability between these solutions means that providers who have deployed the PortaSwitch platform can now deliver full-featured carrier-grade Bria softphones across multiple devices to their respective customers.

Andriy Zhylenko (News - Alert), chief technical officer at PortaOne, commented, “CounterPath is a mainstay in the VoIP endpoint software segment. Its Bria line in particular is renowned for its quality and ease of use. The interoperability of CounterPath Bria products means that providers using PortaSwitch can now offer a premium, full-spectrum softphone capability to customers for home, SOHO and enterprise use.”

CounterPath explained that, being built on SIP and open standards, the Bria softphone has proven interoperable with many industry standard platforms and devices. It now includes features specifically designed for business and enterprise users and can be deployed within an enterprise environment either by manual configuration via the softphone Graphical User Interface (GUI) or by using a provisioning server.

According to PortaOne (News - Alert), the PortaSwitch is built around a comprehensive converged billing software system and includes a class 4/5 SIP softswitch with media application servers. It can be deployed to unify voice and data traffic within a single converged network.

The CounterPath Bria softphone line, meanwhile, is slated to bring even more value to PortaSwitch, which also handles the call control, routing, proxying and converged VoIP billing functions of digital services company.

Now, providers can have the option to blend together PortaSwitch PBX (News - Alert) with CounterPath Bria to realize a softphone solution that is not only full-featured and robust, but also available for almost any device the customer chooses, whether desktop or mobile.
