IX Reach Connects to UAE-IX

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Broadband usage in the Gulf region is increasing at a rapid pace. This has put additional pressure on service providers to keep up with demand. ISPs now have to look at different types of connectivity solutions to cater to the ever burgeoning demands.

IX Reach, a provider of peering and network connectivity solutions, has announced that the company has become the latest member to connect to the DE-CIX (News - Alert) managed United Arab Emirates Internet Exchange. This connection will be enabled from IX Reach’s new PoP location in Dubai's International Media Production Zone (IMPZ).

With the launch of UAE-IX, the Middle East will now get a workable local alternative for regional traffic exchange, instead of high-latency Internet exchange through Europe, Asia, or North America. Being the first carrier-neutral Internet Exchange platform for the Middle East, IX Reach's network presence is vast and advanced.

The international network of UAE-IX is already providing transit and international features, and offers wholesale pricing that is far lower than the traditional market rates.

Stephen Wilcox, Founder and Technical Director of IX Reach commented, "This is an exciting move, IX Reach is bringing something new to Dubai and the region, with more direct access via our network to and from the Middle East at a fraction of the cost it used to be. We've also seen significant interest from the corporate sector - being able to connect offices in Dubai to other international centers such as Frankfurt, London and New York is now a lot easier and cheaper.”

UAE-IX also comes to the rescue when submarine cables suffer outages. When an outage occurs in this region, it severely disrupts Internet connectivity between the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe. UAE-IX provides an enhanced range of available routes in such cases.

Recently, the company opened its new colocation suite, the Global Carrier Center, in London Docklands.
