VoIP: a Cheaper Internet Bill Each Month

By Ashley Caputo, TMCnet Web Editor

VoIP makes their customers’ bills cheaper each month, and if you’re wondering how, VoIP networks lower costs and create more solutions for consumers and providers alike, with the creation of Voice Peering Fabric (VPF). The landscape of the telecom industry was changed when all telephone calls went into the IP domain, which delivers higher quality audio experiences PSTN and makes high-definition (HD) voice possible at a lesser cost.

When an organization chooses to have a ‘hosted’ phone system, it means that VoIP providers are responsible for managing and maintaining it, rather than having a server or any physical equipment in the office. Here are a few reasons how a hosted VoIP system lowers a user’s monthly bill:

No physical equipment

A hosted private branch eXchange (PBX (News - Alert)) uses the Internet to place and receive calls through hardware that is located off-site and managed by a VoIP Provider and is supplied by a telecommunications provider in the form of a hosted phone. This system helps businesses avoid wasting space or money on maintenance because there is no physical equipment that needs to be managed or fixed. The smallest businesses can have just as many phone lines and extensions as a large corporation, even if their office is the size of a bathroom; users also don’t have to worry about wasting space with wires and boxes.

No limitation on expansion

With an Internet phone system users can add as many lines as they want, which of course comes at a small price since VoIP is drastically cheaper than PSTN, which relies on circuit switching, when phone calls are routed through analogy phone technology it can be slow and costly. Traditional phone providers have to charge more per minute, whether it is a local or long distance call. VoIP technology uses the Internet, so it doesn’t matter how far a call travels across the country, the cost doesn’t change. VoIP providers don’t charge extra per minute, rather, it is just a low monthly fee for unlimited calling.

Easy

Without a hosted platform, customers have to buy their own IP PBX and SIP trunking solutions. Everything about VoIP is easy – from maintaining to the calling plans, the hosted system is the ideal phone for a business.

If you are still a PSTN user, hopefully this has not only convinced you to switch to VoIP, but also to purchase a hosted PBX system for your office.
