TELEHOUSE (News - Alert) America, a provider of dedicated data centers, managed IT services and Internet exchanges, has a rosy glow to it – and it’s not just because Valentine’s Day is in a few days. Conversely, the company is celebrating an important milestone as its Los Angeles International Internet Exchange (LAIIX) is commemorating its 10-year anniversary.
"LAIIX serves as a strategic Internet gateway connecting the United Sates to the Asia Pacific region," said Akio Sugeno, vice president of Internet Engineering, Operations, and Business Development, in a statement. "It’s fast switching capabilities offer both primary and secondary IP routing options which ensure advanced peering options for transit providers. With the rapid growth of Internet traffic across the globe, LAIIX continues to be a strategic and robust exchange point."
The LAIIX, a neutral and scalable peering infrastructure for providers of all sizes, serves as a major IPv4 and IPv6 peering exchange designed to offer fast, secure network-to-network interconnection points.
Thanks to its carrier class, high speed Layer-2 platform, LAIIX can offer seamless switching fabrics at two important carrier locations in Los Angeles: 626 Wilshire Blvd. and 1 Wilshire. LAIIX allows Internet service providers, carriers and content providers to cost effectively exchange IP traffic at speeds up to 10 Gigabit Ethernet, which reduces transit costs and increases overall performance, according to company officials.
In addition to its carrier locations in Los Angeles, TELEHOUSE America also operates the New York International Internet Exchange (NYIIX), which interconnects with LAIIX. Last November, NYIIX exceeded 200 Gigabits of traffic. In addition, it offers connectivity through several key buildings in New York including: 111 8th Avenue, 60 Hudson, TELEHOUSE New York Broadway, TELEHOUSE New York Teleport, and TELEHOUSE New York Chelsea.
In related news, in an effort to create the first next generation network/VoIP federation in Germany, which will allow service providers to directly exchange IP voice and multimedia traffic, XConnect (News - Alert) has teamed with DE-CIX (News - Alert) , the world’s largest Internet exchange.
Through its partnership with DE-CIX, XConnect – a provider of network peering and ENUM-registry services – will be able to create a secure, scalable federation hub and central carrier ENUM-based routing and number-management platform that will allow hundreds of fixed, mobile, ASP and Web 2.0 operators to securely interconnect end to end on an all-IP basis.
