Lenovo and Polycom (News
- Alert) have announced an agreement to deliver Polycom RealPresence HD video and HD Voice solutions on Lenovo (News - Alert) laptops and tablets.
As per the terms of the agreement, both companies are expected to develop innovative solutions that optimize and embed Polycom RealPresence video collaboration solutions on Lenovo laptops and tablets. This will deliver high-quality collaboration experiences to end-users from any location, according to company officials.
Lenovo is said to be the first PC manufacturer to announce plans to deliver Polycom-ready products. “Both Lenovo and Polycom are committed to delivering the latest innovations that enhance productivity,” said Rich Cheston, distinguished engineer and master inventor at Lenovo
Cheston said that the company’s customers choose Lenovo computing products as part of a complete technology solution. He said that by embedding Polycom RealPresence video collaboration software in their devices, they are delivering extra value to customers by allowing them to easily collaborate face-to-face with anyone from anywhere.
The companies are ensuring that a number of devices – including select laptops in the ThinkPad T, X, L, and W Series – are Polycom-ready. The companies are providing certification as well as assurance that the device will perform optimally with Polycom solutions.
Additionally, the companies plan to deliver Polycom-powered solutions that embed select Lenovo desktops, laptops, and tablets with Polycom RealPresence HD video and HD Voice collaboration software.
Also, Lenovo is expected to resell Polycom's personal and group communication accessories worldwide, enabling customers achieve a complete communications solution.
In the first half of 2012, Lenovo plans to offer select ThinkPad tablets and laptops that are certified Polycom-ready – specifically for Polycom RealPresence Mobile and Polycom RealPresence Desktop software.
Moreover, the companies are working to embed Polycom-powered software on Lenovo products to extend powerful HD video collaboration beyond the conference room.
“Working with Lenovo further accelerates our vision to make video collaboration ubiquitous by expanding the reach of Polycom RealPresence HD video and HD Voice -- powered by the RealPresence Platform, the most comprehensive software infrastructure for universal video collaboration – to an even broader range of devices, from desktops to laptops to tablets,” said Sudhakar Ramakrishna, chief development officer at Polycom.
Ramakrishna said that embedded delivery of Polycom video collaboration software on industry leading devices, such as Lenovo, adds a new and critical route to market for Polycom.
Earlier this month, Polycom unveiled an enterprise-grade Voice-Over Wi-Fi handset, the Polycom SpectraLink 8452, featuring an integrated 2D barcode scanner.
