ITEXPO 2010: Vocalocity Releases Voicemail Transcription for Small Businesses

By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

At ITEXPO East 2010 happening now in Miami, FL, a provider of Voice over IP services for small businesses, has introduced a new voicemail transcription service that promises to save time, and speed up response time for messages.

According to officials with Vocalocity (News - Alert), the new automated “Voicemail Transcription” services allow users to quickly read their voicemails at any time or place, often without having to listen to their messages.

'Our small business customers are extremely busy, spending much of their day servicing customers, managing business operations and overseeing employees,' David Politis, executive vice president and general manager Vocalocity said.

'Voicemail Transcription services that convert voice messages into an email are a tremendous time saver allowing our customers to make the most of their busy day…as a user myself, this feature has even changed the way I communicate by allowing me to quickly respond to voicemails from my smart phone, even in the middle of meetings.'

Not only does voicemail to text conversion save on the time it takes to dial a voicemail box and listen to message details, but the text format is also beneficial for sharing data with coworkers via a mobile phone or computer.

The new service was built on Yap (News - Alert) carrier-grade speech recognition infrastructure. Yap provides an automated speech-to-text platform for service providers so no human agents are needed to transcribe the voicemail messages.

'Yap has reached a technology milestone in the industry where automated speech-recognition rivals - and often exceeds - the quality of human voicemail transcription,' Victor Jablokov, chief operating officer at Yap said.

'We are thrilled to partner with Vocalocity to make this robust and highly accurate speech recognition capability available to the small business user.'
