EMBARQ Logistics to Resell Sonus Suite of IMS-ready Solutions

By Michelle Pasquerello, TMCnet Associate Editor

Distribution giant EMBARQ Logistics and Sonus Networks (News - Alert) recently entered a distribution agreement in which EMBARQ Logistics will resell Sonus’ suite of IP-Multimedia Subsystems (IMS)-ready solutions in North America.

Under the terms of the agreement, EMBARQ Logistics will deploy and distribute Sonus' products for the local and core IP telephony market, including Sonus' Consumer Voice over Broadband (c-VoBB) bundle, Sonus' media gateway family the GSX9000 and GSX4000 Open Services Switch, as well as Sonus’ Insight Management System.

"By partnering with EMBARQ Logistics, Sonus now has access to one of the most extensive national sales and distribution networks for network operators in North America," said Hassan Ahmed, chairman and CEO, Sonus Networks in a statement. "With this distribution agreement, communications providers have unprecedented access to the latest advancements in IP-voice. Our solutions have been proven in some of the world's most demanding networks and EMBARQ Logistics is now bringing the power of these solutions to operators throughout North America."

Kansas-based EMBARQ offers a portfolio of services that includes local and long distance home phone service, high-speed Internet, wireless, and Dish Network satellite TV for the consumer, as well as integrated services for businesses including integrated local voice and data services, long distance, Business Class DSL, wireless, enhanced data network services, voice and data communication equipment and managed network services.

"We pride ourselves in providing our 1,400 customers the latest innovative and practical solutions. The end-to-end IP telephony platform we can now offer presents a compelling and powerful opportunity for network operators," said Brad Clark, vice president of Marketing and Sales at EMBARQ Logistics. "Sonus' IMS-ready platform allows communications providers to roll out products that are as easy to use as traditional phone service, but with additional features that make the experience much richer. This is another example of our being able to offer our customers products that make sense both in the consumer and enterprise markets."

Sonus recently made headlines when Synergy Research Group named Sonus Networks the market share leader in high density media gateways, citing market growth in Q2 to approximately 32 percent.

IP Multimedia Subsystems, a way to bridge the circuit-switched technology of yesteryear to the packet-switched realm of tomorrow, represents the lifeblood for service providers today. And the best way to understand all of the implications of this next-generation enabling technology is to make the IMS Expo a must-attend event, collocated at INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & Expo, WEST, which runs October 10-13, 2006, in San Diego.
