The Bermuda-based IT solutions company Ignition released Ignition Virtual Office Cloud earlier this week, which enables anyone with a PC, Mac or iPad and an internet connection to access their virtual desktops.

The new service, which is being pioneered by Michael Branco, senior vice-president of Ignition, runs across the company's three data centers in Bermuda, Halifax in Nova Scotia, Canada and the south Caribbean and allows users to have full access to their files, which in turn are secured in one of the requested data centers.

Customers are able to use applications such as e-mail, Microsoft (News - Alert) Word or Excel and even customized programs specific to a certain industry like insurance or financial services.

The features of the new service include running off the latest version of Citrix, 24/7 helpdesk support for the product and regular upgrades to the system on a client-by-client basis.

It is currently being rolled out across Bermuda, the Cayman Islands and Halifax.

Earlier this year, Ignition Bermuda Ltd. acquired certain assets of Fireminds, Ltd. to form Bermuda's leading Managed IT Services, Business Continuity and Cloud Hosting provider for the Offshore market. The combined company comprises 83 highly skilled IT staff which will operate under the Ignition brand with offices in Bermuda, Cayman, Halifax and Atlanta; serving additional markets in the Bahamas, Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and Curacao.

With this acquisition, Ignition clients will have expanded managed hosting options with access to Fireminds' secure virtual hosting environment which provides production and disaster recovery solutions. Fireminds' clients benefit from Ignition's 24 x 7 help desk services, network monitoring and managed IT support. Together the two companies can now provide managed hosting from data centers in Bermuda, Canada and the Caribbean. The combined IT skill set delivers software development expertise to expand Ignition's SharePoint and Records Management practices
