Study Reveals Enterprise Struggling with Evolving Cyber Risks

The cyber risks businesses face today come from many different sources, including heavily financed criminal organizations and rogue governments. Using top of the line hardware and sophisticated software, they are able to eventually crack even the most fortified systems in the world. Enterprises are therefore extremely anxious when it comes to choosing the right solution, because at the end of the day there is no such thing as the right solution.

A new whitepaper from Frost & Sullivan (News - Alert) points to this fact as it revealed many companies are having a hard time trying to keep up with the threats their networks face.

Frost & Sullivan said even though organizations are fully aware of the threat environment as well as the consequences of violating regulatory compliances, they are still relying on outdated methodologies to keep their data secure from potential hackers.

The level of expertise used by these criminals is increasing in complexity, which has resulted in companies with the best security system being victimized. This includes JP Morgan, eBay (News - Alert), AOL, European Central Bank, Neiman Marcus, Home Depot, Yahoo Japan and many others across many different industry sectors and size.

The rate in which these breaches take place has made these incidents almost commonplace as Trend Micro (News - Alert) researcher Christopher Budd said in a blog. He goes on to say, “Data breach events can affect anyone that stores data. There is no such thing as a safe industry or website now.”

Frost & Sullivan has several recommendation and best practices for organizations looking to effectively navigate a threat landscape that is continually evolving. One of its recommendations is acquiring advanced managed security services such as the one offered from Masergy and its Unified Enterprise Security (UES). This platform is an integrated advanced threat management security solution that is 100 percent passive and can be deployed as a standalone or fully integrated with existing security solutions to deliver true 24/7 protection

The Masergy UES solution:

  • Uses raw packet data, which provides more data for analysis than log files;
  • Analyzes and provides continued correlation of data feeds (e.g., from packet data analysis, IPS alerts, vulnerabilities, logs, and policy violations) that can be tracked over time;
  • Analyzes data over longer periods of time (up to two years), as opposed to limited real-time snapshots;
  • Provides a learned intelligence capability in order to predict behaviors and track developing threats;
  • Provides an ability to adapt to an individual network over time without human intervention; and
  • Uses meta data to detect hidden network patterns within normal network traffic to find stealth communication channels used by modern-day APTs and advanced malware.

The whitepaper titled, “An Advanced and Integrated Approach to Managed Enterprise Network Security” by Chris Rodriguez, Senior Industry Analyst was sponsored by Masergy and it outlines the challenges of the solutions available in the market place to implement and update the security architecture of the network.

“Many businesses are turning to managed security services (MSS) as a means of addressing the complexity and difficulty associated with deploying and managing multiple-point security solutions. MSS can help customers solve these challenges, but, ideally, these services should be built on a platform that offers the functionality of leading security point products and combines correlation and intelligence into a single, integrated, and centrally managed framework,” said Rodriguez in the paper.
