Citrix's Future Workplace

Workplaces have evolved over the last few years. Gone are the days when people sat in a desk and worked on their desktop computers from 9AM to 5PM. Today, workplaces are about flexibility and convenience as people prefer to work from the place they want using a device of their choice.

This flexibility is one of the three findings that Citrix believes will change the future of workplaces. Employees prefer to work from their homes to avoid traffic congestion and also, to have a better work-life balance. This idea of telecommute is catching up big in America and the rest of the world. As of 2013, 2.6 percent of U.S. employees, or roughly 3.3 million, considered home as their primary place of work, and this does not include the self-employed. Going forward, many others are likely to take this route as it gives them greater flexibility.

Another trend identified by Citrix is the use of personal devices for work. Bring-your-own-device (BYOD) has grown from 18 percent to 25 percent in 2014 alone, and this trend is likely to continue over the next few years. BYOD has become popular because of the availability of smartphones and tablets that come with the latest technologies to empower people. As a result, when people work from their own devices, they tend to have a higher degree of job satisfaction.

The last trend projected by Citrix is the emergence of new technologies that allow people to be more productive at work, and also contribute to the society in a big way. Recent developments in the world of Internet-sharing has seen applications such as Uber that impact the way people think and work, and all this will contribute to the greater good of humanity.

These trends give enterprises a glimpse into the future to help them tailor their workplaces and policies accordingly.
