Phone.com (News - Alert), a provider of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) based phone services for small businesses, announced that it has made enhancements to its local telephone number service availability in Canada and Puerto Rico. The new service now allows businesses to include SMS and fax in Canada and fax in Puerto Rico and can help businesses expand the pools of numbers available to them.

The advantage of this service is that businesses can select numbers that are familiar to callers in these regions. Small businesses can also create a local presence in other geographic areas with calls answered remotely and billed at local rates, building on the most recent innovation in the industry: the virtual office.

With Phone.com local numbers are available 120 Canadian cities, including Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, London, Ottawa, Quebec, Sault Saint Marie, Toronto, Vancouver, Victoria and Windsor, giving businesses in Canada the ability to have virtual offices all over the country.

In Puerto Rico, numbers are immediately available for San Juan. Businesses can also find pools of numbers for 32 additional cities including Bayamon, Guaynabo, Mayaguez and Ponce coming soon. Phone.com allows businesses to add phone number in a few seconds through the user-friendly Phone.com portal. Local numbers outside of the U.S. start at $4.88 per month.

Phone.com local numbers are now available in 44 countries and the enhancement of Canada and Puerto Rico numbers is part of the company’s strategy to help meet the growing needs of their customers, according to Phone.com CEO Ari Rabban (News - Alert). As sectors like the call industry continue to expand such phone technologies like these give organizations the ability to hire agents remotely and expand their offices worldwide in the digital space.

Phone.com recently completed a $2 million funding round led by ff Venture Capital with participation from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority’s Edison Innovation Venture Capital Growth Fund. The funding will be used to accelerate customer growth, enhance marketing and sales team and develop new technologies for the virtual office.

The New Jersey Economic Development Authority’s (NJEDA’s) investment is part of a state fund created in 2011 to provide local technology companies with growth capital for hiring key staff, product marketing and sales. Established in 2007, Phone.com is ranked #8 on Inc.com’s list of top telecommunication companies.
