Music aficionados are in for a treat, as Phone.com (News - Alert), a VoIP phone service, unveiled a new hold music service that will make the art of holding a more enjoyable activity. Instead of being subjected to grating and annoying hold music, customers will be able to choose from a wide genre of music, ranging from rock to hip-hop.

The new and innovative Premium Music on Hold Feature can be subscribed for 99 cents per month and the subscribers will be privy to nine premium music channels. These channels include classic rock, electronic, rap, jazz and tie-dye, featuring artists such as Bob Dylan, Daft Punk, Jay-Z and Louis Armstrong. Music legends like The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen etc. will get their own dedicated stations, so one is assured of respite from boring elevator music.

“I think it’s cool, the fact that you can choose from a bunch of well-known performers in genres you are interested in,” said Ari Rabban (News - Alert), CEO and co-founder of Phone.com. “There is a lot of boring elevator music that everybody offers, with us, you can get Bruce Springsteen,” Rabban said.

Ari Rabban believes that music can set and define a business’s image and bad hold music often leads to hang-ups from annoyed customers. “Every business would like to have an image, and if you want to look cool and think Jay-Z is the one that will do that, then you can have Jay-Z as your hold music,” he said.

Interestingly, one can upload their own sound clips to be used as hold time clips. “If you want to upload your company jingle, you can have it. However, you must have permission to use the sound clips you upload. Phone.com is not responsible for copyright infringement that may occur as a result of uploading music without permission,” Rabban said

Phone.com is not new to the VoIP business and has been offering services like vanity numbers, custom greetings, voicemail and call transferring for years. The hold music is compatible with any Phone.com plan.
