Windstream and BroadSoft Make Hotel Stays Better with New Virtual PBX Tools

With summer travel season now upon us, and Fourth of July travel arrangements already in progress, the hospitality industry is preparing to receive the loads of travelers it will likely see as a result. Improving internal systems is one major way to prepare for this array of new guests, and Windstream and BroadSoft have gotten together to bring out a new customized virtual public branch exchange (PBX) and unified communications (UC) service for hospitality providers everywhere.

The combined effort yielded a system called Virtual PBX for Hospitality, a system that offers complete UC service that connects to the complete hotel management system, as well as its data network. Installation is said to be simple, yet carrier-grade, making it both powerful and easy to use. It allows for greater flexibility in addressing the property's overall needs, and means there's no longer a call for multi-vendor operations as all the relevant functions can be incorporated into one umbrella. Plus, there are tools to better identify and address problems before such become too pronounced, and there's even real-time trend analysis systems to allow businesses to better see what is and isn't working and make changes accordingly.

In an unusual twist, the new solution isn't part of the channel reseller market yet. That may change in the future, Windstream noted, but for now it seems to be strictly available through the main company. Windstream, via its executive vice president and chief marketing officer Joseph Harding, commented “The Windstream Virtual PBX for Hospitality represents the traditional PBX service reimagined to meet the specific needs of the hospitality industry. By analyzing the user interface and understanding the ever-changing needs of the hotelier customer, the team developed a smarter cloud-based platform that gives hoteliers constant control and monitoring capabilities, reliable connectivity and fully customizable communications.”

There's a lot going on behind the scenes of a hotel's operation; it not only needs to manage and stock inventory, but much of that inventory goes into the provision of services. It has therefore many concerns in common with both retailers and service industries, while contained in a building that is often as large as a big box store, but subdivided into a host of individual rooms. That's a lot to keep track of, and thus having high-end communications tools is not only necessary for the hotel, but also for the hotel's guests. Said guests will insist on Internet access as a matter of course, whether for work or play, and the hotel that can't provide will often lose to the one who can.

Windstream and BroadSoft's system, meanwhile, should make it easier for hotels to keep up competitively with others in the field. That should make it an attractive buy and give the duo a prominent presence in the hospitality field.
