Sunrise Communications, NFON Bolster Cloud Telephone Collaboration

Cloud-based telephone systems are making a big splash with businesses eager to take advantage of the improved flexibility, added capability, and cost savings that often come with such systems. An eager market means plenty of opportunity for the best in the field, and Sunrise Communications and NFON are looking to cement their presence as the best by adding on to previous collaborative efforts.

Sunrise was already well-known for its Sunrise Business cloud private branch exchange (PBX) system, which gave companies access to a cloud-based telephone system complete with a host of options. This removed the need to augment systems every so often, as the augmentations were done at the host's level, not the client's. NFON, meanwhile, specializes in business cloud PBX, and currently has a presence in 12 different countries throughout Europe. It supplies servers for such systems, and currently has a slate of servers located in Sunrise's Switzerland data centers.

NFON's chief executive officer, Dr. Gerald Kromer, noted that Sunrise represented “...the ideal innovative partner in Switzerland...” thanks to its ability to offer NFON's systems so readily. Kromer also noted that this move was in keeping with NFON's expansion strategy, which has been in operation for some time now.

The benefits of cloud-based telephony systems have long been known; not only are there the benefits stated previously about access to services without a need to upgrade systems, but there are also benefits to scalability. The system can be modified on several fronts, ranging from numbers of users to services available, and all those changes can commonly be made from a simple Web portal.

Essentially, businesses no longer need to buy a slate of hardware and hope that the numbers don't fluctuate too much in response; why buy hardware for an office of 100 only to discover that, six months later, the business needed to add on 50 people, or let 20 go due to lack of business? The system which was perfect for 100 people is woefully inadequate for 150, and a waste of power for 80. There's no longer a need to overbuy to accommodate potential expansions, or underbuy and hope capacity needs stay static. Businesses can now make the system just as powerful as it needs to be. This is great for cases of seasonal business, as the capacity can be temporarily ramped up to address the needs on the ground, and then dialed back after the seasonal rush fades away.

A cloud-based phone system can be a valuable component for most any business. There are often extra features that only come with the highest-end phone systems, and often at a much lower cost than those highest-end phone systems run. The combined effort of Sunrise and NFON should deliver a lot of value for those looking for cloud-based phone, and leave plenty of users satisfied.
