The North American market is one of the most lucrative markets in the world. Anytime there is a new development in the information and communications technologies (ICT) sector, this region is the most likely early adopter and the fastest to mature compared to other parts of the world. The VoIP access and SIP trunking services market in the region is no different, which according to Research and Markets is seeing increased adoption and the emergence of new use cases.

Based on the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), SIP trunking is a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and streaming media service used by Internet telephony service providers (ITSPs) to deliver a wide range of communication services. Everything from hosted and virtual PBX to unified communications (UC), instant messages, multimedia conferences, Enhanced 9-1-1 (E9-1-1) emergency calls as well as other SIP-based and real-time communications services can be delivered.

The report looked at the North American market for 2014 - 2021 with an analysis of different drivers, including users, revenue, competitor assessment and trends with the goal of helping service providers and other players in the segment so they can identify challenges and opportunities for their business strategies.

The report highlighted some key findings for the region. The firm said the VoIP access and SIP trunking services market is growing at such a rate, it is on its way to replacing legacy services linking business customers' premises to service providers' networks. This is one of the biggest reason for the popularity of this technology. It eliminates IP-PSTN gateways or the entire PBX, redundant network, and BRI and PRI subscription fees, while extending new services from ITSPs.

The services SIP trunking provides are also better positioned than UC as the entire communications market looks to find the best technology and delivery method to their customers. Being able to extend legacy PBX platforms with the flexibility of IP telephony along with noticeable cost savings are features businesses are looking for.

Another driver in the growth of SIP trunking services is, it is becoming an important component of hybrid communications deployments and giving organizations greater control with application programming interfaces (APIs) that allows them to create their own communications solutions.

According to Research and Markets, “The VoIP access and SIP trunking market continues to displace legacy telecommunications services as the link between on-premises customer platforms and the public switched telephone network (PSTN). SIP trunking services are being used in a number of new ways, including automated program control and the emerging trend of hybrid cloud communications.”
