LinkBermuda Adds Backup and Private Cloud to its Cloud Services Portfolio

LinkBermuda announced recently that it added two new services to its product line. One is a cloud backup service that will allow companies to quickly backup and restore their data. The second is a virtual private cloud that provides a testing environment for new solutions before they are moved into a production environment on a public cloud.

LinkBermuda Ltd. provides a variety of voice and technology services for residential and business customers on the island of Bermuda. Residential customers can get the usual home voice and Internet services that many companies offer. Business customers can get voice service and a variety of IT services like business continuity, virtualization, public cloud, cloud PBX and networking. LinkBermuda is based in Smiths Parish and is a subsidiary of Bragg Group

Companies based on the island will be happy to hear that LinkBermuda has added a cloud backup service. While the island is known for its pleasing climate, hurricanes and tropical storms can be a problem. According to Bermuda Online, the island can suffer extended electric outages from gale force winds. The data centers housing the public cloud and cloud backup services are located in Devonshire parish, near the west side of the island.

To have services like cloud backup on the island is a big step forward technologically, but it does not address the possibility of a major disaster that could be even more devastating. With an area of only 20 square miles, Bermuda is no match for a Katrina-like hurricane. The island is also relatively isolated with the closest landmass being Cape Hatteras off the coast of North Carolina, some 650 miles away.

If LinkBermuda could add another data center in the mainland U.S., that would provide even more redundancy for its business continuity and cloud backup services. It would better prepare island businesses for that once-in-a-century disaster that a nearby data center may not be prepared to handle.
