Every day the news is filled with stories of hostile takeovers and the competitive nature of the business landscape so it is important from time to time to take a look at a company in the virtual PBX space doing some good for the community. This week, FreedomVoice announced that its philanthropic partnership with San Diego’s Rady’s Children’s Hospital is a rousing success.

FreedomVoice is a self-proclaimed “socially-conscious” communication solutions provider for American small and medium size businesses (SMBs). FreedomVoice is leveraging the “it takes a village” notion to get the community behind Rady’s Children’s hospital.

In broad strokes, FreedomVoice offers the option in its billing process for the customer to pay an extra dollar on their monthly bill to benefit the hospital. Monthly contributions have surpassed $3,000 and the program touts collecting over $75,000 to date.

“As a technology company, we’re passionate about solving problems, both for our customers and in the communities we serve,” said Eric Thomas, CEO of FreedomVoice. “We’re exceptionally proud to have developed our Customer Giving Program on behalf of Rady Children’s and incredibly grateful to our generous customers for making it a success. We encourage other companies to explore this model as a way giving back to their communities.”

FreedomVoice simply pools all the monthly donations and sends them directly to Rady’s. Since the program’s implementation in 2012, monthly donations have risen nearly 800 percent.

Rady’s Children Hospital serves an integral purpose for the community. The socially conscious provider, FreedomVoice, is helping to fund the many life-giving programs and treat the 200,000 patients the hospital sees annually.

“With their Customer Giving Program, FreedomVoice is pioneering a new way of providing philanthropic support,” said Steve Jennings, Senior Vice President and Executive Director of Rady Children’s Hospital Foundation. “As their contributions grow, so does the positive impact on Rady Children’s and the lives of children we treat here. We’re looking forward to working with other companies as this innovative model gains ground.”

Stories like this serve as the occasional warm fuzzy we all need to realize that altruism is okay, and doing the right thing, is well, the right thing. Virtual PBX is a lifeline for businesses of all shapes and sizes, and it is refreshing to see this PBX provider attempting to do the same for thousands of children.
