The hosted services currently being offered give organizations the agility and flexibility to scale in either direction without the cost and complications of on-premises systems. The availability of reliable broadband is giving businesses of all sizes access to a wide range of IT services without the CAPEX and OPEX of traditional infrastructures. This includes communications solutions such as private branch exchange or PBX, now being offered in the cloud so companies can run their business from virtually anywhere.

Chorus Communications, provider of advanced telecom services in Philadelphia, highlighted the flexibility of its hosted PBX solution and how it can be used during the harsh winter months so employees can work from home to ensure business continuity.

The blizzard warning issued in the East Coast last week basically shut down New York City and many other locations, as officials erred on the side of caution. Although the storm was not as bad as predicted, it underscored one of the greatest benefits of having a hosted solution, business continuity.

The Chorus hosted PBX solution has advanced communications features and scalability designed with customized services for each client. This gives clients the option of having their employees work from almost anywhere and have services such as VoIP accessed from landline, mobile phones, or laptops. And because the maintenance of the communications system is carried out by the company over the cloud, the client can continue operating without worrying about updates, security and on-premises IT personnel.

Hosted PBX delivers real-time transfer of calls so employees can deal with their customers without missing a beat for long distance calling, voicemail and email capabilities, essentially bringing the office to every home of a company’s workforce.

With more than 20 years in operation, Chorus Communications has partnered with the largest service providers to ensure the solutions it offers are up and running at all times. Its partners include Comcast Business Solutions, Verizon, Earthlink, Netcarrier, Sprint, Altiva, and others.

The company provides services that are essential for today’s businesses, who rely on high percentage of availability with solutions such as: colocation, cloud services, unified communications, disaster recovery, virtualization, Web conferencing and more.

As Rich Tehrani mentioned on his article, traditional PBX vendors are facing challenges as hosted providers and even open sourced platforms such as FreePBX are now available in the market place. Having a hosted solution doesn’t necessarily mean completely removing traditional PSTN lines, because IP PBX systems can be connected via an optional gateway. But as broadband services become available everywhere, hosted solutions will highlight the glaring deficiencies of traditional systems, leading many to question why they haven’t migrated to the cloud.
