Wireless Revenue Growth to Offset Wireline Revenue Declines

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

ATLANTIC-ACM, a leading telecommunications industry research and benchmarking firm, announced the release of the new market forecast study “Wireless Wins, Wireline Wanes: U.S. Telecom Sizing and Share 2010-2015.

The 17th edition of the industry’s chief market sizing and forecasting study finds that “wireless growth will almost fully offset wireline revenue declines as consumers and workers expect ubiquitous connectivity, holding overall industry revenue declines to a CAGR of -0.3 percent from 2009 through 2015.”

The report finds wireless industry will continue to expand over this same timeframe, nearly making up for losses on the wireline side and holding industry contraction to less than one percent per year.

On the contrary the wireline side of the telecommunications industry will experience revenue contraction through the middle of the decade as overall market dynamics drive continued technology migration and wireless substitution, according to ATLANTIC-ACM CEO Judy Reed Smith.

“The wireless industry will continue to expand over this same timeframe, nearly making up for losses on the wireline side and holding industry contraction to less than one percent per year,” Smith added.

ATLANTIC-ACM’s research document provides detailed forecasts by product and company delivering an essential, comprehensive view of the industry, researchers at ATLANTIC-ACM said.

The research agency recently announced the release of the 2010 edition of its Business Connectivity Wireline and Wireless Report Card.  The benchmarking research-based analysis was derived from more than 5,000 individual ratings of telecommunications carriers by their customers.

The report delivers a comprehensive overview of the business connectivity landscape from the perspective of business and enterprise customers, the company said.

A recent TMCnet report, based on Dell’ (News - Alert) Oro Group’s study, says voice-over-broadband customers will drive wireline voice core market.

Dell' Oro Group predicted that wireline voice core equipment revenues will experience low, single-digit percentage growth through 2014, partly as a result of an increase in Voice-over-Broadband, or VoBB, subscribers.
