Phone.com Touts the Value of Virtual Office Number Porting

By Amy Tierney, TMCnet Web Editor

It’s not easy to give up something you love – especially when it concerns your phone number. Businesses often have to sacrifice their numbers when they are looking for a new, affordable phone service.

But Phone.com, a Livingston, N.J.-based company, has some good news. Companies can keep their phone number and transfer it to Phone (News - Alert) (News - Alert).com. It’s all part of the firm’s local number porting service.

With the technology, users still own their phone number - just as if they were switching cell phone companies. Users just have to get a new number for their original phone, unless they eliminate their existing service completely.

Local number porting lets companies can take advantage of Phone.com’s (News - Alert) Virtual Office features, such as voicemail, free international calling to popular destinations, fax sending, call routing, call recording, caller-ID routing and SMS voicemail notification. Voicemail transcription is also available for a small additional fee, as are other upgrades. Prices and plans range from $4.88 to $18.88 a month.

And the benefits are endless. Phone.com’s local number porting service gives home-based business users a professional appearance. Callers won’t know where their calls are being answered. Companies can also direct incoming calls from important clients to reach employees at any time.

What’s more, companies can set up a schedule to forward all calls received after a specific time straight to voicemail. For example, if there is a new baby in the house, Phone.com’s porting service is ideal, company officials said. In addition, users have a back-up to check customer voicemail messages as e-mail messages through the service.

Here’s how it works: companies transfer a cell phone number to Phone.com. To keep the cell phone service active, businesses must request a new number from their cell phone provider. With Phone.com, calls will be direct to a cell phone and other phone companies designate. Businesses that sign up for the service pay Phone.com for its extended phone features, as well as their cell phone provider.

Another benefit of Phone.com’s Virtual Office is that clients can call one general number no matter how many devices companies own. Organizations looking to transfer their existing number must complete a letter of authorization form.
