Moving Phone Systems Should Not Be Hard

By Mae Kowalke, TMCnet Contributor

Recently, Jeb of Phone.com (News - Alert), was changing offices recently when he received a call from one of his best friends, Josh. Josh also was moving.

“I asked what he’s doing about his phone system,” wrote Jeb in a recent Phone.com blog post. “He was ashamed to admit it, but he’s paying someone to move over and set up his entire phone system again. He’s paying them to dismantle the phones along with the dedicated server and set them back up again.”

On the face of it, Josh’s decision to hire someone to relocate his phone system and its dedicated server room during the move was not a bad one: Uninstalling, moving and reinstalling a PBX (News - Alert) system is not easy or quick. But, that doesn’t mean it was as easy as it could be, as Jeb’s situation showed.

“Josh was not happy when I told him what I was doing to move my phone system,” wrote Jeb. “I’m literally just unplugging the power supply to my IP desktop phone as well as the Ethernet cable from the back of the phone.”

Of course, that’s just for his physical phone.

“To move my Communicator, I just have to close the lid on my laptop and walk away holding it,” he added. “Lastly, to take my Mobile Office app with me I just put my Android (News - Alert) phone in my pocket.”

Phone.com Communicator is software that runs on Windows and Mac operating systems and serves as a softphone, enabling calls from anywhere. It is part of the Phone.com suite that moves the corporate PBX to the cloud and simplifies just about every aspect of business telephony.

“Moving offices with Phone.com is a piece of cake, no hiring IT people to disassemble a PBX system and no need to create a dedicated server rooms with sprinkler systems and temperature controls (like Josh has),” noted Jeb.

Phone.com literally is a plug and play solution that comes with a vast array of features and 24/7 IT support. So, while Josh seemingly had a sensible plan for relocating his work phone system, that didn’t mean it was the easiest, cheapest, most efficient solution.

Some people have it a lot easier, like Jeb and his move. And in this case, Jeb has Phone.com to thank for having it so easy. It was yet another reminder that “Phone.com makes my life easier,” he wrote.
