Userful Launches Virtual Software Application, Userful Multiseat 4.0Userful Corporation, a provider of Linux desktop virtualization solutions and services, introduced its new software application named Userful MultiSeat 4.0. The solution converts one Linux computer into 11 high performance independent computer stations that deploy standard USB devices such as the HP t100, Wyse E01, MCT MWS 8820 and DisplayLink devices. Enterprises and institutions can leverage Userful MultiSeat for reducing their costs spent in computing infrastructure to around half of the usual amount, as it allows them to enable up to 11 users to work upon different applications from one host computer simultaneously. All of these computers are equipped with their own monitor, keyboard and mouse. The Userful MultiSeat solution is being made available at a price of $59 per seat for educational institutions, which makes it one of the cheapest computing solutions offering the features and performance of a full desktop computer. Organizations can also benefit from the solution in quickly deploying large numbers of computer stations at multiple locations, such as classroom, office, call center, oil field, hospital, library, military base and hotel or internet cafe, at considerably low costs. When compared to the regular PC per seat solutions, the new solution by Userful cuts down the hardware costs by around 80 percent, while it also reduces the infrastructure required for installation of the computers by around a factor of 10. Additionally, the offering saves the energy costs by up to 90 percent, which helps the enterprises in realizing electricity cost savings that can add up to the cost of their computers within a few years. Customers of Userful have reported that in comparison to their previous computing solutions, they have realized around 60 percent in up-front costs and 80 percent in annual power savings after deployment of company’s new solution. Over 50,000 locations globally have been deploying the solution. “Userful MultiSeat software and HP multiseat USB thin client hardware are an ideal solution for regions such as India, where schools need to deploy large numbers of full featured computers for minimal cost, using minimal infrastructure,” commented Rajat Mehta, country manager PSG for HP India, in a press release. “Userful is a professional and responsive company that enables schools to leverage Linux and open source software for a very professional, and high performance user experience.” “Userful and DisplayLink have worked closely together to build support for DisplayLink USB virtual graphics enabled devices with the market leading Userful Linux solution.” said Dennis Crespo, executive vice president of Marketing and Business Development at DisplayLink, in a statement. “The performance and ease of use of the Userful MultiSeat software running on DisplayLink technology enabled devices is outstanding. As the leader in USB virtual graphics, DisplayLink is excited to be a part of the super easy way to set-up and run computer sharing.” In November 2010, Userful Corporation (News - Alert) released the Beta version of its Linux alternative to Microsoft (News Raja Singh Chaudhary is a contributing editor for TMCnet.
