Study: Desktop Video Conferencing Makes Big Strides

By Prabhala Ranga Sai, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Desktop Video Conferencing is becoming a popular and preferred mode of communication among small businesses, according to a research report from Brockmann & Company, a customer insight research and consulting firm. The company released findings from its latest independent, self-funded report "The Desktop Video Conferencing Experience."

Based on current research findings, desktop video conferencing is no longer a hi-tech dream for small businesses. With the advent of high speed networks, built-in cameras, and excellent computers, video conferencing is becoming a utility.

In the past, only big businesses were using videoconferences as the costs and complexities associated with it were high. Moreover, collaboration solutions had limited the potential of video conferencing only to big businesses.

"Desktop video conferencing is the small business video system of choice. It is very important to 60% more vice presidents, 1.7 times more CIOs and CFOs and 2 times more CEOs and COOs than telepresence. That's because desktop video conferencing involves customers and clients 43% more often than telepresence systems." Peter Brockmann, president of Brockmann & Company said in a statement.

Brockmann & Company contacted 360 business users of conferencing services from around the world for the report. In addition to these responses, the report also includes input from vendors on the systems and devices needed for desktop videoconferencing.
