With 10 years of video conference management under its belt, Glowpoint (News - Alert) is a household name in the video communications industry. In an interview with Jonathan Brust, vice president of marketing and business development for Glowpoint, he revealed just how Glowpoint is able to keep up with the rapidly-expanding video communications technology that is hitting the market these days.
As companies expand and set up multiple offices, they frequently require video conferencing in each one. Glowpoint provides a system into which companies plug their video conferencing unit. Brust explained the set up as one that alleviates a business’ need to install a very expensive interface into their video conferencing unit. Without having to pay for an interface, the company can easily turn over the installment and functioning of their video conferencing structures to Glowpoint.
Arranging 250 to 300 conferences per day, Glowpoint stays ahead of the game by offering direct point-to-point capabilities, the ability to book meetings using its portal, and having its conferencing directors produce the conference for the business. The specific technology of Glowpoint’s video telecommunications offers intuitive aspects to the acoustics and HD quality. Brust described the ability to “hear a pin drop” in the office with which you are conferencing while maintaining crystal clear HD video quality.
While Glowpoint’s servers can host thousands of video users in one conference, the company also provides dedicated video networks. Brust illustrated the difference between satellite capabilities and those of Glowpoint’s networks as mainly cost-effectiveness. Where satellite requires two separate connections, Glowpoint’s networks provides one line for a two-way conference.
As a global, 24/7 service, Glowpoint’s philosophy has somewhat changed over the years as it has grown in popularity. Instead of seeking out clients, Glowpoint is now “being approached by major AV companies to support their telepresence technologies,” stated Brust. As the company expands and strengthens its customer base, it constantly seeks to “provide a tool set” for businesses to “bring video to the seamless integration that phone conferencing already provides.”
