NetCentrex Commercial Deployments Surpass 2 Million VoIP Lines

By DAVID R. BUTCHER, Assistant Editor, Customer Interaction Solutions

From its European headquarters in Paris, France, NetCentrex, an enabler of next-generation converged voice and video solutions, today announced it exceeded two million Class 5 VoIP lines in commercial service. Leveraging significant worldwide growth in residential voice over broadband (VoBB) connectivity and triple-play service bundles, NetCentrex customers are currently activating 5,000 lines per day.

"The 2 million line milestone is an indication that the residential VoIP market is moving beyond the early stages to reach mainstream consumers," said NetCentrex Chairman Olivier Hersent in a company statement.

The majority of residential broadband services are delivered by Class 5 Application Servers. In Frost & Sullivan's recent "World VoIP Equipment Update," NetCentrex was recognized as the worldwide market-share leader for Class 5 Application Servers. In an Infonetics report, in which specific market shares were not delineated, NetCentrex was highlighted as one of the three top VoIP application server companies in the world.

"The application server is a strategic platform in [next-generation] networks and many of the new services that will bring innovation into the market will reside on it," said Kevin Mitchell, Principal Analyst at Infonetics Research, in NetCentrex's announcement.

The movement toward replacing TDM switches with Class 5 is one which the company sees as inevitable as TDM switches become a technological rara avis and more expensive to maintain. According to the company, extending the softswitch with a high-density/small-footprint line access gateway optimized for central office deployment allows for a cost-efficient and future-proof voice solution.

NetCentrex develops next-generation network (NGN) voice and video solutions for enabling telecom operators and service providers to deliver voice-video-data and fixed-mobile converged services for consumer and enterprise markets. All of NetCentrex's solutions are built upon the same IMS-compliant infrastructure, which includes a carrier-class call control switch (softswitch), media services, provisioning and management. Solutions include IP telephony, video telephony, triple play, IP Centrex, voice/video VPN, contact center and IVR switches.

The company, with TDSoft, recently launched a complete Class 5 softswitch and line gateway solution that enables service providers to replace costly TDM switches while supporting a broad range of legacy, local loop infrastructure (including analog lines and V5-based DLCs). The joint solution enables carriers to provide traditional high-quality telephony services while benefiting from VoIP in the network's core.

NetCentrex was founded in 1998 and is privately held. The company has sales and partner representatives in more than 25 countries. For more information about NetCentrex, visit their Web site at www.netcentrex.net.
