Toshiba (News - Alert) America Information Systems Telecommunication Systems Division (Toshiba) has announced a number of mobile apps targeting mobile employees.
The new mobility apps include IPMobility, Call Manager Mobile and Find-me Follow me. They allow users to integrate smartphones with Toshiba’s business telephone systems, so they can make and/or receive business telephone calls on their smartphones.
Toshiba’s mobile apps support popular mobile operating systems including Apple iOS and Android (News - Alert). With this, the company is empowering organizations to embrace mobility while fully utilizing the benefits of the smart devices used by their employees.
“Whether users have Toshiba’s Strata CIX, IPedge or VIPedge solutions, they can use their smartphones as their primary or secondary telephones, directly accessing their office extensions for single-number reach,” said Brian Metherell (News - Alert), vice president and general manager of Toshiba.
The IPMobility client application is designed for IPedge and Strata CIX and provides single-number reach to Apple (News - Alert) and Android smartphone devices for both incoming and outgoing calls. Users only need to provide their office telephone numbers to receive incoming calls.
For outgoing calls, IPMobility dials through the IPedge or Strata CIX, displaying the office number caller ID and providing least cost routing for long distance and international calls. There is also an option to dial directly through the system or have the system call back the user before making the outbound call in order to avoid mobile network long-distance charges.
The service also supports advanced calling features like extension dialing, call transfer, and call record, among others. It also provides visual voice mail to remotely manage and control IPedge and Strata CIX Messaging voice mailboxes.
Built on HTML5, Call Manager Mobile empowers smartphone users to access Toshiba’s VIPedge cloud-based business telephone solution. Users can take their office calls, instant messages and visual voice mail on their mobile phones just as if they were at their desks. With its enhanced Presence feature, users can quickly find each other by providing telephone and XMPP-based enhanced presence state information.
Call Manager Mobile also handles single and group instant messaging sessions. Multiple simultaneous sessions are supported, enabling users to better communicate with others. Users also have the ability to send broadcast messages.
Toshiba’s easy-to-use “Find-me Follow-me” call routing feature is available as a standard feature with all three Toshiba business telephone solutions as well. It enables users to set up automatic forwarding of incoming calls on their office extensions directly to their smartphones.
Finally, Twinning, another feature available on all Toshiba telephone systems, enables the simultaneous ringing of both the user’s office phone and smart phone.
Both IPMobility and Call Manager Mobile are supported on Apple iOS 5 and 6, as well as Android 2.3 and later. They are available for free download at the Apple App Store and Google (News - Alert) Play App Store.
