Mu's Testing Suite Helps LTE and IMS Vendors Compress Testing Time, Accelerate Deployment
By Marisa Torrieri, TMCnet Editor
When it comes to testing next-generation IP services, getting things done quickly is essential to staying competitive – and saving money.
But testing for functionality, interoperability, resilience and security of IP services such as VoIP, IPTV (News - Alert) and IMS is often one of the most time-consuming processes – and, in turn, one of the most critical issues – facing network operators and their vendors.
And for LTE (News - Alert) and IMS vendors who want to compress their testing time and accelerate time to deployment, there really are only a few options.
One Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company that’s effectively positioned itself in the emerging testing IP services space knows all about the critical issues facing these vendors – and has recently launched an IP services testing suite that simulates real-live scenarios.
That company, Mu Dynamics, said the suite is, to date, the telecom industry’s only integrated “solution” to quickly and cost-effectively address the key requirements of IP service testing regardless of the specific customer ecosystem.
“Using only homegrown test tools and limited conformance and canned or static protocol testing tools, operators and vendors are falling behind in the testing of the inherent complexity and diversity of next generation networks,” Dave Kresse, CEO for Mu Dynamics (News - Alert), told TMCnet. “Many operators and their vendors are turning to the new Mu Test suite to help them rapidly deploy next-gen telco services with higher quality in less time.”
Operators and vendors using the Mu Test Suite count on it to do a number of things, including:
• Accurately emulate the logic of the IP Service to provide thorough testing of the actual service, and not just individually testing the underlying components;
• Drive multiple types of data by sampling IP service traffic including customer content, Mu content and/or third-party content in order to accurately simulate end-user behavior;
• Allow for multiple aspects of testing -- including functional, interoperability, security and resilience testing -- in a single platform so work done by customers can be leveraged across testing types.

According to Kresse, customers who have used Mu’s testing suite are finding that it delivers a tenfold productivity improvement over traditional testing solutions.
“IP services within Mu’s customer ecosystems are all mission-critical, but the underlying complexity of these environments combined with the unique, custom, and rapidly evolving nature of each specific service makes testing a huge challenge,” Kresse said. “Mu now uniquely offers the industry’s only integrated solution to quickly and cost effectively address the key requirements of IP service testing regardless of the specific customer ecosystem.”
