New Infonetics Research Report Reveals Growth Rate of Optical Transceivers Market

During 2011-2012, shipments of DQPSK transceivers are expected to be more than that of DPSK. Related revenues are expected to grow ten-fold from 2009 to 2014 for tunable DQPSK 40G optical transceivers.

And that's just the first bit of data that foreshadows future trends, thanks to Infonetics (News - Alert) Research's new report.

The report tracked 10 Gigabit, 40 Gigabit and 100 Gigabit optical transceivers and transponders sold into the optical transport, carrier routing and switching and enterprise markets.

Specifically, "10G/40G/100G Optical Transceivers Market Size and Forecasts" analyzes the optical transceiver and transponder market by module, reach, wavelength and form factor. It also includes end-market projections of carrier preferences and equipment shipments to drive component forecasts.

Andrew Schmitt, Infonetics Research's (News - Alert) directing analyst for optical said , "Our conversations with service providers and enterprises indicate they have a strong preference for 100G technology provided it is at the right price, less urgency surrounding 40G coherent technology, and wide-scale acceptance of both 10G SFP+ and tunable XFP."

"Based on our optical transport, router, switch, and enterprise equipment forecasts, combined with our service provider deployment models, we expect 100G pricing to reach twice that of 40G in 2013, resulting in a rapid shift to 100G. By 2014, 40G and 100G modules will make up roughly half of the world's total 10G/40G/100G optical transceiver and transponder revenue," Schmitt added.

The optical transceiver market forecasts that the revenue from 10G, 40G, and 100G transceiver and transponder market will grow to $ 1.44 billion worldwide by 2014. The factors responsible for this are 10G SFP+ and tunable XFP technology, and future adoptions of 40G and 100G.

Infonetics research also highlights that tunable XFPs will drive growth in 10G as they remove inventory management issues with fixed-wavelength modules besides fulfilling the need for tunability as ROADM (News - Alert)-based networking rises in popularity which replaces the more costly 300-pin format. Shipments of next generation 40G long-range and short-range optical transceivers will begin in 2010, primarily for enterprise and IP router applications, said the report.

Also it was revealed by the Infonetics team that during 2011-2012, shipments of DQPSK transceivers are expected to be more than that of DPSK. The revenue is forecast to grow nearly 10-fold from 2009 to 2014 for tunable DQPSK 40G optical transceivers.

The Infonetics report also offers in-depth analysis, market size and forecast for the period from now to 2014 regarding manufacturer revenue and units shipped for 10G, 40G and100G optical transceivers and transponders. The forecast is based on Infonetics Research's 10G/40G/100G ports forecast, which utilizes the trends seen in many enterprises and markets for carrier routing and switching, and optical transport equipment.

According to the report some vendors providing products in the optical transceiver market are Avago, APAC Opto Electronics, Delta, Emcore, Finisar, Fujitsu, Furukawa / Fitel and Hitachi (News - Alert) Cable among others.
