Webinar: "The Future of 40G and the Reality of 10G ATCA Solutions" to Help Network Managers Prepare for High-Bandwidth Future

By Marisa Torrieri, TMCnet Editor

(NEBS)
To support tomorrow’s bandwidth demands, the ATCA open standards architecture will rely on 40G optical networking.

Early adoption seems most prevalent in the core with deep packet processing applications like authentication, security and billing that require high throughput, aggregation of services and provisioning.

But to stay competitive in this landscape, how does a networking and communications technologist determine whether your application requires 10G, 40G or beyond? And then, does that person best prepare their company for the transition?

To answer these and other related questions, Jeff Hudgins, vice president of marketing for NEI has teamed up with Robert Pettigrew, director of marketing, communications-embedded computing, Emerson Network Power (News - Alert); Jeff Marden, senior architect and technologist in commercial communications, GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms; and JP Landry, networking program manager for DTI (News - Alert).

Together, these speakers lead the free Webinar “The Future of 40G and the Reality of 10G ATCA Solutions” on Oct. 20, at 2 p.m. ET.

In this upcoming Webinar, Hudgins, Pettigrew, Landry and Marden will examine recent technology advancements, architectural benefits, integration technologies and product developments leading to 40G solutions. Attendees will learn about migration paths and ways to make the best decision for their respective organizations, as well as the obstacles that must be overcome to take advantage of true 40G wirespeed.

Recently, NEI’s Hudgins told TMCnet that there’s a myth that 40G is here, when in reality, 40G is coming -- and there are steps that both NEI’s partners and the eco-system are taking to prepare for that. A mid-2010 early adoption and a late 2010 from a production standpoint, Hudgins said, is the true 40G reality.

“The best way to plan is to understand what products are available today that can be leveraged without having to take on too much risk,” Hudgins told TMCnet. “You want to be an early adopter but not necessarily on the bleeding edge ... so through the balance of this year, there will be a lot more activity occurring in 40G future proofing. It will still be relatively slow, however. A lot of production today and production going into next year is 10G. For most applications right now, even in the core, 10G is more than sufficient.”
