Atos Picks Coriant's Optical Networking Platform and TNMS

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributor

Global IT service provider Atos has announced that it is currently in the process of upgrading its network supporting two data centers in the Finnish capital area with Coriant’s optical networking platform hiT 7300 and telecommunication network management system (TNMS).

Coriant worked very closely with Atos to meet their critical network evolution needs, as bandwidth demand between their data center sites began to grow exponentially, explained Herbert Merz, president and CEO at Coriant, a global supplier of optical transport solutions.

Finland based Atos operates some of the country’s most advanced data centers, supporting clients’ needs for advanced hi-tech and managed services. The Brocade (News - Alert)-certified upgrade expects to seamlessly integrate traffic between the original data center and the secondary site, established in 2012. The upgrade enables 40G (gigabits) per second and 100G in parallel.

Coriant’s hiT 7300 is a DWDM platform optimized for the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) for applications in multi-haul networks. Company officials said that its highly integrated approach encompasses planning, installation and test processes.

TNMS is described as a highly scalable network management system, which provides an easy-to-understand network views and simple network navigation coupled with uniform fault, configuration, security and performance management functions.

Company officials said that Coriant’s intelligent optical networking solution, consisting of hiT 7300 and TNMS, will help Atos have one of the first data center networks capable of supporting client services from 40G to 100G.

“Coriant’s DWDM platform and management system enables us to provide truly reliable high capacity connections across our critical data centers sites while eliminating complexity and latency,” said Pauli Sinivuori, head of network for security and communication Services at Atos.

Thanks to the seamless growth in capacity, Atos can deliver a wide variety of services to its clients, including 10GbE and fiber channels such as FC-4G and FC-8G, according to company officials

Additionally, Coriant is also providing Atos with professional services, specifically for installation, integration, testing and support.

“Our advanced optical networking solution provides Atos a new level of optical layer efficiency, scalability and automation that enables them to deliver enhanced service value to their end-user customers,” Merz said.

Last month, Coriant announced the commercial availability of its Intelligent Optical Control (IOC).
