NAND Flash storage is a highly efficient storage technology that can power intensive computing and telecom deployment platforms. NAND technology does not require power to retain data. In fact, it has a finite number of read-write cycles, though the total number continues to increase with each generation of chips.
In a significant development in the industry, Super Talent Technology, a manufacturer of NAND Flash storage solutions and DRAM memory modules, recently updated its green memory modules. The new products will serve as an energy-efficient alternative to traditional DIMMs, according to company officials.
With no tradeoffs in price or performance, choosing traditional DIMMs for computing can have an enormous environmental impact. With hundreds of thousands of memory modules produced monthly, the environmental impact created by these storage modules will be huge.
The green VLP DIMMs from Super Talent help save the environment while delivering excellent performance and reliability. It delivers greener memory choice for regular desktops that uses less raw materials, produces less industrial waste and consumes less fuel to transport with absolutely no tradeoffs in functionality or price as well.
The technology was developed by using JEDEC standard schematics. These DIMMs use 38 percent less FR4 material, which is the fiber glass epoxy substrate most PCBs are made of, and one-third less copper than the company's standard height DIMMs, according to company officials.
"Decreasing overhead in a data center is an easy way for a company to reduce costs. With Super Talent's Green Memory, power and cooling costs can be easily cut while maintaining speed and reliability for a company," said Shimon, VP of Engineering, Super Talent Technology, in a statement.
The VLP DIMMs find applications in standard-based x86 motherboards. The company also offers low profile RDIMMS for blade servers and ATCA applications.
The green DIMMs have already been tested exhaustively with a variety of hardware and software to ensure they meet Super Talent's rigid quality standards, and are backed by Super Talent's lifetime warranty.
