Mobile Device Adoption Boosts Telecom Platform Deployment

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

(NEBS)

Advanced telecommunications computing architecture (ATCA) is followed by more than 100 companies that provide carrier-grade communications equipment. Some of the latest and greatest trends for ATCA and network appliances that affect telecom platform deployment involve a boost in infrastructure.

Carriers are making the decision to invest heavily in infrastructure to increase revenues and lower bid costs, according to this NEI (News - Alert) blog post. As the adoption of more mobile devices takes place every day, the traffic growth is helping to push this telecom platform deployment trend.

Now with many companies making the transition from 3G to 4G, which will help expand bandwidth as well as offer more services and provide better policy management, it’s also expected that with a telecom platform deployment from 3G to 4G, more revenues can be realized. There is also the potential for better momentum and opportunities for the ATCA carrier-grade products.

Radisys, a provider of embedded wireless infrastructure solutions for telecom and aerospace (a recent adopter of ATCA protocol), offers market-leading ATCA, network appliance platforms, and IP media server solutions, among other services.

The company recently partnered with NEI, a company with a large amount of experience in developing innovative appliances including application management solutions. Chandresh Ruparel, a line manager for Radisys, said telecom platform deployment capabilities between the two companies include network infrastructure solutions that utilize carrier-grade technology.

Ruparel also revealed that NEI and Radisys are seeing telecom platform deployment solutions that include a large investment in services with IMS IP multimedia subsystems. These types of solutions are being adopted and widely deployed using ATCA and carrier-grade rack mount servers. Telecom platform deployment utilizes different technologies, depending on density requirements, he added.

Another strong trend in telecom platform deployment includes equipment manufacturers focusing on value-added applications.

Ruparel said that Radisys’ partnership with NEI has been a feather in the hat for the company, thanks to NEI’s strong telecom expertise and experience, which is highly valued by companies seeking application deployment solutions.

Solutions that Radisys has delivered with NEI include messaging, control plane applications, network monitoring, and more. Radisys also recently took the “Best Enabling Technology” award at the small cell forum industry awards ceremony.
