Gone are the days of shipping disks or downloading software to general purpose servers. Today, more and more software vendors are turning to plug-and-play hardware-based appliances, as they are secure, easily maintained and built for application performance.
Realizing the importance of telecom platform deployment, Kontron (News - Alert) Australia, a global provider of embedded computing technology, recently introduced its 10G ATCA open modular platform OM9141-10G for the telecom equipment manufacturing industry.
Kontron’s 10 Gigabit Ethernet ATCA open modular platform features new, advanced and faster bladed data transport, as well as switching and system management hardware.
The new appliance deployment solution will allow telecommunication equipment manufacturers to build a multitude of new equipment configurations on a common platform using CPU, NPU, DSP, storage and specialized 3rd-party ATCA-based line cards that meet the requirements for 3G, 4G LTE, WiMAX (News - Alert), GPON, IPTV and carrier cloud network elements.
Officials said that each Kontron 10G ATCA open modular platform OM9141-10G encompasses redundant power entry modules, cooling infrastructure with hot swappable redundant fans, and second generation 10GbE switching capabilities based on the Kontron 10G ATCA switch AT8910.
Shelf management is built in, with redundancy and interoperability-tested Shelf Manager Cross Connects as per PICMG (News - Alert) specification. An optional Kontron COM Express dual-core module is available on the Kontron AT8910 for centralized system management with a standards-based HPI (News - Alert) implementation.
There is also the availability of a telco alarm panel that provides telecom-grade external system alarm notification.
