Telecom Platform Deployment and the Most Prominent Digital Media Trends of 2012

By Jamie Epstein, TMCnet Web Editor

(NEBS)

When analyzing digital media trends, NEI (News - Alert), a provider of innovative telecom platform deployment solutions, recently revealed that this year, the industry will continue to expand even with the current economic and social obstacles that are staring businesses all over the world in the face.

Seconding this notion, research firm Frost & Sullivan (News - Alert) is claiming that telecommunications service providers and equipment vendors will continue to enhance their offerings while simultaneously, enterprises will leverage integrated networks.

As detailed in a blog post, over the next 12 months, consumers seeing the many advantages associated with video will be leveraging IP-based video services for both personal and business use, forcing providers to deliver high-quality content in narrow bandwidths with increased stability and high resolution.

Because of the abundance of organizations now using video, online video advertising will climb to around 32 percent per year within the next couple of years. “As consumers turn their attention toward on-demand video services, Web-based analytical tools and software to measure client engagement will be in high demand as providers look for ways to anticipate trends, improve technology and measure engagement,” according to the blog.

Additionally, as companies wish to develop digital media libraries, they will continuously opt for solutions that have the ability to support a large amount of data but also allow any platform from any location – mobile or fixed – to access the information.

Scalability will continue to remain a key objective for companies, as this can help to reduce costs and allows organizations to see an increased ROI for their technology. The post added, “telecommunications companies that can provide flexibility in the form of modular or scalable products will have the edge in the foreseeable future.”

In 2012, outdated software and applications will be replaced by open-source platforms and Web-based architectures will continue to proliferate, as businesses learn the upside of open-source code in the form of application longevity and shared resources.

Businesses will also continue to demand a single, integrated platform for their entire array of needs, particularly focusing on cloud-compatible and cloud-deployment applications, Web-based architecture and seamless connectivity across all types of devices and platforms. Hence, it is crucial that technology vendors boast the skills needed to create and broaden access, deploy content, and manage the technology across multiple networks, such as NEI.

NEI recently teamed with Azuki Systems (News - Alert) to ensure OTT (Over the Top) video delivery. Azuki’s solution enables simplified media preparation for multi-screens; properly segments and wraps Merdan-audited content protection; ensures optimal distribution through multiple Content Delivery Networks (CDNs); monitors and manages the network bandwidth, playback, and entitlement enforcement; reports on use; and integrates advertising.

“Some of the largest and most successful content owners and service providers rely on Azuki Systems to ensure uptime, reliability, scalability, and performance,” Rob Hickey, vice president of engineering at Azuki Systems, concluded in a statement. “NEI helped us quickly configure and deploy health monitoring tools that proactively manage our systems as an important part of our Azuki Media Platform™ solution.”
