Oracle Unveils Netra SPARC T4 Servers for Telecom Platform Deployments

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

(NEBS)

Oracle (News - Alert) has just launched the Netra SPARC T-Series servers, its new carrier-grade NEBS-certified servers designed for telecom platform deployments.

Built on Oracle Solaris 11, Oracle's new servers are designed to meet the demands of application workloads in communications network infrastructure and offer the performance, scalability and efficiency required for 4G network infrastructures and cloud-based deployments.

"Oracle's new Netra SPARC T4 servers with Oracle Solaris 11 deliver the performance and scale communications companies require to rapidly deploy new services and support cloud-based offerings," said Raju Penumatcha, vice president, Netra Systems and Networking, Oracle, in a statement.

"With Oracle's new carrier-grade servers and complete solutions portfolio for the communications industry, customers have a rock-solid platform for long-term service deployments," Penumatcha added.

Oracle's Netra SPARC T4 servers deliver up to 5x better single-threaded performance than the previous generation, while maintaining massive throughput on multi-threaded applications, company officials said in a press release. Also, the servers deliver nearly a 2x performance improvement over previous-generation systems on Oracle Communications ASAP.

Oracle's Netra SPARC T4 servers also help to shorten service development and the time required for telecom platform deployment by offering extensive built-in capabilities, including integrated on-chip cryptographic acceleration, as well as the Oracle VM Server for SPARC and Oracle Enterprise Manager Ops Center at no additional cost.

Oracle offers the broadest range of NEBS-certified servers and storage and the only complete solutions portfolio spanning the communications industry landscape.

In related telecom platform deployment news, TMCnet reported that NEI (News - Alert), a leading provider in the space, is currently gearing up to provide lifecycle management of the Sandy Bridge- Romley chips from Intel (News - Alert) and anticipates telecom OEM customer needs in this area, thanks to the repercussions of the launch for designers. In 2012, the company is expecting that upgrade cycles for deployed applications are likely to accelerate, as many companies skipped the Nehalem/Westmere upgrades and have been waiting on Sandy Bridge instead. New and improved solutions based on this hardware will be important to the industry.
