Looking Back at NEI's Contributions to the Telecom Platform Deployment Industry in 2011

By Jamie Epstein, TMCnet Web Editor

(NEBS)

NEI (News - Alert) worked closely in 2011 with Telecom Equipment Manufacturers (TEMs) to ensure they have the tools needed to develop, support and deploy multiple, complex technologies at a cost-effective price.

“Dominating the market this year in the telecom space was the transition to 40G, the expansion of LTE (News - Alert) and 4G rollouts,” NEI officials stated. As the ATCA ecosystem continues to move to support 40GE solutions, NEI has remained ahead of the competition through supporting switches, single board computers, and pocket processing blades, all with 40GE connectivity.

This year, the company spoke about key strategies that can be utilized with 4G deployments at TIA (News - Alert) 2011 to cut down on the overuse of resources needed in peak usage scenarios. Many telecommunications deployments including 4G wireless, HD-quality video streaming to devices, and VoIP technologies will benefit greatly from carrier-class virtualization solutions. In addition, NEI discussed techniques that should be analyzed in order to create carrier-grade private cloud solutions that can fully support packet processing, encryption/decryption, load balancing, transcoding, and general purpose processing of modern IP-based telecommunications platforms.

NEI’s facilities located in both Canton, Mass. and Plano, Texas received 14001:2004 environmental management certifications this summer, which in essence means the company has stuck by policies created to minimize its carbon footprint. Also, the web-based customer portal, My-NEI, was launched to dramatically elevate customer access to a variety of production and logistics processes, including manufacturing, stocking, shipping, and distribution management.

NEI also became a Gold level member in the Oracle (News - Alert) PartnerNetwork (OPN) this year, which will allow the company to enhance the services it provides to TEMs.

Looking ahead at next year, the company is gearing up to provide lifecycle management of the Sandy Bridge- Romley chips from Intel and anticipates customer needs in this area, thanks to the repercussions of the launch for designers and OEMs, officials revealed.

As far as predictions for 2012 for the telecom platform deployment market, NEI says that upgrade cycles for deployed applications are likely to accelerate, as many companies skipped the Nehalem/Westmere upgrades and have been waiting on Sandy Bridge instead. New and improved solutions based on this hardware will be important to the industry.
