HP Powers New Offerings Including NEBS Certified Blades

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

(NEBS)

Industry observer Drew Robb recently profiled HP's high-end line, calling it “understandable” that Integrity servers “don't see nearly as much action as HP ProLiant.” Robb also noted that over the past several months, HP has made two major changes to these NEBS offerings – the addition of the Integrity Superdome 2 to 32 socket server, and the NonStop BladeSystem NB54000c.

He took an in-depth look at some of the Integrity and NonStop models stating, “The HP Integrity server blades support the HP-UX, Windows and OpenVMS operating systems,” pointing out that “it is possible to mix and match HP Integrity, HP ProLiant and HP Storage blades within the same BladeSystem c-Class enclosure.”

In June, TMCnet had the news that PointSecure, which sells security and auditing products for OpenVMS systems, announced its commitment to continue support for HP Integrity servers and the HP OpenVMS platform. PointSecure's tools protect OpenVMS systems and Integrity servers from both external and internal security threats, while ensuring compliance with corporate security policies and governmental regulations such as HIPAA, GLBA and BS779.

There are three blades to choose from, Robb revealed. The BL860c i2 is a a 2-socket, full-height blade server with up to 384 GB memory which meets telecommunication requirements with NEBS Level-3 certification. The BL870c i2 Server is a 4-socket blade with up to 768 GB of memory and eight Flex-10 Ethernet ports that can work perfect with the database tier of multi-tiered enterprise applications, and the BL890c i2, which is an 8-socket UNIX blade with up to 1.5 TB of memory and 16 Flex-10 Ethernet ports.

“There are four entry-class Integrity racks in the one to four processor range,” Robb says, such as the rx2800 i2 with a quad-core Intel (News - Alert) Itanium processor or dual-core Itanium processor, and the rx2800 i2, “a versatile entry-class system for smaller or more remote deployments which meets NEBS Level-3 certification requirements," HP officials stated.

The Superdome family is what Robb calls “the high-end of the Integrity line. Superdome 2 is the latest generation. It comes with a modular, bladed design, common components and standard racks,” and there are three models including the entry point Integrity Superdome 2-8s, the 2-16s for midrange and the newest Integrity Superdome 2-32s

In conclusion, he mentioned the HP Integrity NonStop systems, which HP officials say are used by financial institutions, mobile operators, global manufacturing companies, hospitals and public sector organizations, and stated they have the ability to “scale from 2 to 4080 processors and from 16 GB to 194 TB of memory.”
