NEBS: How Can Telecom Suppliers Support a Mix of Technologies?

By Jamie Epstein, TMCnet Web Editor

(NEBS)

In order to keep up with the increasing demands that come with the growth of 4G wireless technology and the mobile Internet, it is crucial for telecom equipment manufacturers to be able to balance the costs needed to support these innovative technologies. Without finding this balance, they can reduce efficiency, waste resources and deploy solutions that don’t work according to their initial design.

That’s where NEI (News - Alert), an appliance deployment provider of NEBS-certified platforms, plays a pivotal role.

A company video reveals that major companies such as Motorola and Alcatel Lucent (News - Alert) have utilized NEI’s expertise in regards to ATCA-, NEBS- and DC-powered servers to solve complex design, integration and deployment problems from a single platform that has the ability to support innovative technologies.

In addition, NEI has the ability to partner with leading vendors in order to manage product lifecycles and boasts a manufacturing footprint that has the capability to deliver and support telecom equipment such as NEBS, all over the globe.

Through knowing what exactly encompasses a seamlessly integrated platform, NEI can not only help customers to deploy products at a much faster rate and at a reduced cost, but can help to ensure a high measure of reliability of products that can be used in extremely harsh environments. Thus, there are fewer risk levels as the equipment will work no matter what circumstances surround it.

In related news, Jeff Hudgins, vice president of marketing at NEI, stated he believes NEBS certification is still used today due to various reasons. “First, it is the standard that has really stood the test of time, as it has been around for 40 years or more. NEBS is still actively used, reviewed, and updated on a continuous basis by Telcordia (News - Alert) so it remains a very active standard that is monitored and updated by a standard body.”
