Advantech (News - Alert) officials say the company has introduced its latest generation DSP blade in ATCA form factor based on Texas Instruments (News - Alert) TMS320C66x digital signal processor (DSP) generation and it has passed rigorous NEBS testing.

The Advantech's ATCA node blade, DSPA-8901E, provides 160 cores of processing power to reach what company officials say are “the higher levels of performance density needed to build the highest capacity media gateways in the network.”

The NEBS certified blade is billed as being able to reduce overall system cost and “free up valuable slots in gateway elements for additional subscriber capacity and throughput.”

Advantech officials say customer interest is “strong with providers in Mobile TV, Web TV and IPTV (News - Alert) markets,” and they expect to see increasing demand in high-end video conferencing, broadcasting and telepresence fields.

Earlier this week TMC had the news that Innovasic Semiconductor, a provider of extended life semiconductors, said that Advantech chose the Innovasic RapID Platform and fido1100 System-on-a-chip for its new Ethernet/IP I/O modules.

Media Excel (News - Alert), a transcoding company selling video encoding and transcoding for content owners, aggregators and broadcasters, announced their intent to expand current product lines to include an ATCA form-factor product. ”We are excited to see products such as Advantech's DSPA-8901E blade entering the market," said Nikos Kyriopoulos, product director at Media Excel.

Software support for the blade will be available from TI and Advantech Ecosystem Alliance software partner ENEA, according to Advantech officials. The NEBS certified DSPA-8901E DSP blade is available for general sampling in 2Q 2011.

Innovasic's fido1100-based RapID Platform for Industrial Ethernet will provide Ethernet/IP connectivity in Advantech's new ADAM-6100 series of real-time Ethernet I/O modules for factory automation.

The RapID Platform is a complete, royalty-free design which provides Ethernet/IP and PROFINET connectivity for factory automation applications.
