By Jamie Epstein, TMCnet Web Editor
NEBS requirements are used all over the world for a variety of commercial, utility and defense applications. The most frequent application of NEBS remains the design and testing of equipment intended for use in Regional Bell Operating Company (RBOC) central offices.
Telcordia Technologies offers custom consulting, testing and analysis services that rely on the interactive relationship between telecommunications network equipment and its particular environment, emphasizing a consistent level of service and integrity—under normal and extreme operating conditions. Telcordias customers include manufacturers of telecommunications products, as well as a variety of service providers.
Telcordia (News - Alert) Technologies offers product analysis services that enable equipment manufacturers to fully grasp the physical and electrical protection characteristics of telecommunications products. The subject areas include physical strength, earthquake and fire resistance and thermal protection as well as lightning surges, grounding and electromagnetic interference (EMI).
Engineering analysis and testing are available to clients, on a confidential basis, to look at product designs in the early stages, and to perform prototype testing. These services can help to quickly visualize environmental compatibility problems before the product goes into production, allowing changes to take place early in the production cycle at greatly reduced costs.
Products evaluated cover a full range of those found in most networks like digital switches and transport products. Newer data networking products are also evaluated such as multi-protocol hubs and routers, xDSL products and wireless products.
Testing and analysis is performed in Telcordia Technologies's environmental test facilities which include anechoic rooms and Open Area test sites for EMI, thermal chambers, seismic and vibration shaker tables, fully pollution controlled fire test facility and contamination chambers.
