NEBS: Emerson Network Power Launches Mini-ITX Embedded Motherboards with Second Gen Intel Core Processor

By Stefanie Mosca, TMCnet Managing Editor

(NEBS)

Emerson Network Power, and provider of Business-Critical Continuity’ latest series of Mini-ITX form factor embedded motherboards now support the new 2nd generation Intel (News - Alert)(r) Core(tm) i7-2710QE and Intel(r) Core(tm) i5-2510E processors. The processors were just recently launched by Intel.

The Emerson Network Power MITX-CORE-800 series features a standard latching 12 Vdc power input connector for simplicity and low cost integration by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). The MITX-CORE-800 series features a PICMG standard Extended Application Programming Interface (EAPI) to simplify the control of hardware functionality such as the backlight inverter and the watchdog timer. Emerson (News - Alert) Network Power has also simplified the way developers can customize and configure the motherboards' BIOS to speed integration and accelerate time-to-revenue.

"Emerson Network Power (News - Alert) is a premier member of the IntelEmbedded Alliance and is one of the first companies to introduce embedded motherboards featuring the 2nd generation IntelCoreprocessor family," said Paul Virgo, marketing director for the Embedded Computing business of Emerson Network Power. "The 'future-proof' MITX-CORE-800 series is designed to provide customers with a managed path of performance and feature improvements as future generations of IntelCore processors are brought to market. This series of Mini-ITX embedded motherboards is just the first line of products: Emerson Network Power will be supporting future products within the 2nd generation Intel Core processor family to be launched later this year."

According to the release, The MITX-CORE-800 series provides makers of intelligent kiosks, digital signage, medical clinical equipment and gaming machines with an improved power/performance ratio compared to previous generation embedded motherboards.

It also offers significant improvements in graphics processing, PCI (News - Alert) Express and on-board storage interfaces, as well as enhanced software support. Featuring up to 8GB DDR3 memory, dual display capability from multiple physical display connections and Intel vPro technology, the new embedded motherboards are ideal for the rapidly growing market for connected consumer portals.

"The 2nd generation Intel Core processor family introduces the Intel Advanced Vector Extensions instructions to enable new levels of performance, flexibility and energy efficiency," said Matt Langman, director of product marketing, Embedded Computing Division, Intel. "Intel AVX (News - Alert) can deliver the performance required by the growing needs of applications such as anonymous video analytics within the next wave of digital signage and intelligent kiosks, or wireless clinical carts within the connected hospital environment."
