NEI Platforms Help Dell in Enabling Eco-Friendly Deployments

By Stefanie Mosca, TMCnet Managing Editor

(NEBS)

Aside from being recognized for its appliance deployment, NEI, known for being application platform and deployment services experts, partners with companies such as RadiSys, GE, Emerson (News - Alert) and Dell to help them generate and personalize solutions based on their products.

For the past year, NEI has been working together with Dell to build a portfolio of customized solutions based on the Dell PowerEdge server line. These solutions were selected to address the specific needs of the telco and security markets, as well as the energy-efficient needs of the enterprise and data centers. NEI’s E-2710 provides a cost-effective platform designed to maximize efficiency in such environments.

According to NEI it provides design and engineering services that meet industry regulations such as frame-level design and integration services which are key components of many deployments. NEI is experienced in rack level design, rack assembly, integration and testing as well as NEBS Level 3 compliance.,

Smart Services solve the security, reliability and management issues experienced when attempting to update, monitor and backup servers. Software developers can quickly build and deploy secure solutions in both physical and virtual environments.

Securing OS services ensure platforms are delivered with minimized operating systems in order to maximize performance and minimize security risks. NEI offers Windows hardening, Linux packaging and Smart Services on these custom platforms as well as, Dell (News - Alert) PowerEdge R710, R610, R510 and R410 models.

According to a Green Light article last year, after the partnership was first announced in November, “powering an entire data center with DC power could save the inefficiencies associated with this method, according to Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. That includes reducing the inefficiencies in converting incoming grid AC to DC, and then back again, several times to filter out grid power glitches, which many data centers do.”

"You get much more efficient power usage by making them DC across the board," said Jeff Hudgins (News - Alert), NEI's vice president of marketing. "It's a growing trend."

According to a TMC article earlier this year, NEI (News - Alert) is able to provide unique value by extending the PowerEdge platforms to position them to meet the demanding high-reliability, battery back-up and NEBS requirements of server farms and telecommunications central office environments, according to Hudgins.
