Loquendo and Artematica Use Speech Technology to Voice Enable Web Sites

By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

Speech technologies provider Loquendo (News - Alert), a Telecom Italia company headquartered in Turin, has partnered with a multimedia communications company to launch a new content delivery service that brings together the Web and voice technologies in a bid to change the way online visitors interact with a Web site.

Officials at Loquendo and Artematica said “The Woice” will make it easier to build and edit Web sites and offers the ability to deliver Web content by phone.

According to Sergio Reale, CEO of Artematica, this project’s main goal was to bring speech technologies within everyone’s reach.

"Speech technologies bring many advantages to the world of communications, since the most natural and intuitive way to deliver information is undoubtedly by voice,” Reale said.

Using Loquendo’s text-to-speech technology, The Woice can read out on-screen content to callers over the phone in lifelike voices and in one of five available languages - English, Italian, Spanish, German and French.

In addition, callers can use their voice to navigate the site thanks to Loquendo’s speech recognition technology which is able to understand and locate content based on a few spoken keywords or phrases.

"Artematica has created an innovative way of interfacing with the Web, allowing companies to build speech into their Websites rapidly and cost-effectively," Alessandro Martino, Loquendo's vice president of sales for Italy said. "This unique solution is ideal for the visually impaired, differently able, and anyone who prefers to interact by means of speech."

Just last week, Loquendo announced the latest version of its TTS technology with improved audio quality and a smaller footprint.

Loquendo TTS version 7.7 also includes a new Remote API Module that makes it easier to develop client-server architectures and makes it possible to control the TTS APIs remotely.
